Obituary for Shirley Zamora

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and aunt, Shirley Zamora, 73 of Cheyenne, Wyoming, was called home on November 24, 2018 at 12:11 p.m. while surrounded by loved ones at the Davis Hospice Center.

She was born on January 9, 1945 in Alliance, Nebraska to Guadalupe and Frances Vallejo. She married the love of her life, Fidel Zamora, on Sept. 20, 1969 and they recently celebrated 49 happy years together. She was feisty, loyal and fiercely protective of those she loved. She was hard working, kept a beautiful home and was the cornerstone of her family. While she had two biological children, Melissa and Eric, many others honored her by calling her “mom”. She was selfless and giving in spirit, time and self. She was adored by nieces and nephews from both families and was known as the stylish, funny, wise and generous aunt.

She is proceeded in death by her grandson, Gabriel Christian Zamora, who called her home on his birthday; parents, Frances Torres Vallejo and Guadalupe Vallejo; brothers, Jessie, Guadalupe, Bill, Rito, Frank, Pete and Carlos; and sisters, Connie Torres, Susan Hessler and Frances Benitez.

She is survived by her husband, Fidel Zamora; son, Eric Scott Zamora; daughter, Melissa Yvette Zamora of Cheyenne; sisters, Josephine Aguallo and Sandy Morales of Scottsbluff, NE and Lucy Orozco of Gering, NE; and brother, Ralph Vallejo of Garland, Texas.

We are better because of her and she will be dearly missed.

A Vigil for the Deceased will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, December 1st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Father Michael Carr as celebrant. Cremation is under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
