On November 4th family and friends said good bye to John Edward White, a longtime resident of Cheyenne.

John White was born in Bridgeport, Texas, March 9th, 1934, a descendent of homesteaders who came to Wise County, Texas after the Civil War. He was the sixth child of seven and spent his early years on his family’s dairy farm. John was orphaned at eleven but persevered to graduate from Bridgeport High School where he was a star athlete and continued on to college on a football scholarship. He joined the U.S. Army and served two years in Ft. Bliss, Texas and Frankfurt, Germany.

After his military service John attended Colorado College where he studied Business Administration. He subsequently moved with his family to Fort Collins and later Cheyenne. John was a real estate professional, he owned several businesses and he invested in people, providing seed money for new business ventures. John was an overall sportsman. He loved hunting, fishing, he was a championship golfer, an accomplished pool player, and a spectacular card player. Of all of his accomplishments, John regarded his four children as his most important contribution to the world. John was married to Kay Alexander from 1954-1977 and Mary Lou Tyrrell (nee Winters) from 1982 until her death in September, 2016.

John White is survived by his brother, Carl S. White of Ft. Worth, TX, four children with Kay Alexander, Jennifer Alexander Terry of San Antonio, TX, Jonathan E. White of Ft. Collins, CO, Marcus A. White of Severance, CO, and Andrew J. White of Ft. Collins, CO, his step children, Brian Tyrrell of Cheyenne, WY, Terry Lee Tyrrell of Phoenix, AZ, Kimberley Love of Forney, TX, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
